ITALY: When ASD Agelini Roma team won comfortably the final of the 2009 European Champions' Cup, Italy had scored its 7th victory in this event! Incredible as it sounds, Italy has won all titles but one; won by Germany in 2006. This year, Germany was the other finalist and they captured the silver medal, while the bronze went to Sweden. The 2009 European Champions' Cup was splendidly organized in the headquarters of the French Bridge Federation, in St. Cloud, Paris. |

2009 Women's Jamboree The 2009 European Women's Jamboree, held in Rome, 6-11 October, was a very successful event, with some 120 participants not only from Europe but also from several countries from other WBF zones. |

Wroclaw Students win A team representing Poland's Worclaw University won the first European Universities title, finishing ahead of Paris University (France) and Trondheim University (Norway). The competition took place in Optacia, a maritime resort in Croatia, 4-10 October 2009. It was organized by EUSA (European University Sports Association) which recognized bridge as a sport in 2007. All in all, 22 teams took part in the competition, representing 18 Universities in 10 European countries. |

Gianarrigo Rona to lead the WBF Gianarrigo Rona, the President of the EBL has been elected to lead the World Bridge Federation. His tenure will start at the close of the 2010 World Bridge Series Championships, due to be held in Philadelphia, USA, 1-16 October 2010. This is when, the current WBF President, José Damiani, will be concluding 16 years in office! Gianarrigo Rona’s term as EBL President started with his election in 1999. He was re-elected twice, in 2003 and 2007. His term expires in June 2010, when he will be succeeded in the League’s highest administrative office by the person to be elected EBL President by the General Assembly in Ostend, Belgium. |
